counting
What counts as a billable repo?
Private, non-archived repositories where you have explicitly enabled Fwozen. Public repos are always free and always unlimited. Archived repos never count.
Enabling a repository is a safety decision, so we try hard not to make it a cost decision. That is also why the count is repos you enabled rather than repos we can see.
Private repositories need a GitHub plan that offers rulesets or protected branches: Pro, Team or Enterprise. That is GitHub’s limit, not ours, and Fwozen’s free private-repo allowance does not lift it. Public repositories work on GitHub Free.

30 engineers, 60 private repos, one GitHub org.
Sixty private repos is past Free’s five, and one GitHub org is inside every plan’s allowance. So this is Team, $29/month, or $290/year. The 30 engineers cost nothing, on any plan.

Unlimited private repos rules out Free, and the second GitHub org is over Team’s allowance of one. Nothing blocks you there. Going over an allowance is a usage meter and an audit entry, never a refusal. But the plan that covers this is Business, $99/month, or $990/year. The 140 engineers cost nothing, on any plan.

What happens when the trial ends?
You drop to Free, and freezing keeps working. For a safety product, a billing-induced failure to freeze is an incident we caused for you, so it does not happen. The line-by-line version is the next answer.
Exactly what changes when a Business trial drops to Free?
We switch nothing off behind your back. Item by item:
- Repo six and onward. Every repository you enabled stays enabled and stays protected. We do not disable a repository you were relying on. The usage meter on your billing page shows you over the allowance and the event lands in your audit log, and that is the whole of the enforcement.
- Active schedules. They keep running. Scheduled and recurring freezes are in the free tier, so nothing about them is trial-only.
- Live exceptions. They run to their expiry. Granting a new per-PR exception needs Team; revoking one never needs anything.
- Deploy gates. A branch that already has the gate on keeps it, forever. Turning the gate on for a new branch needs Team. Turning one off is always allowed, because a billing state must never lock you into a gate.
- History. Audit records older than 7 days stop being visible. They are not deleted. Upgrade and all of it is there again. Freeze history is not filtered on any plan. Every freeze you have ever run stays visible on Free.
Underneath, freeze, thaw, extend, schedule, audit, and freeze-state are on a safety allowlist in the API that entitlement checks cannot touch. It throws at startup if someone tries to gate one.
Does Fwozen work on my GitHub plan?
Freezing needs the fwozen check to be required on the branch, and that requirement is GitHub’s, under GitHub’s own plan rules. Rulesets and protected branches reach private repositories on Pro, Team and Enterprise. On GitHub Free they reach public repositories only, for a personal account and for an organisation alike. Our free allowance of five private repos does not lift that.
Fwozen cannot read your GitHub plan, so it does not claim to know before you try. It writes the rule where your installation allows it, or hands you the values to write, and reports what GitHub answers. Where GitHub offers neither mechanism the fwozen check still posts and still fails, and the merge button still works, so a freeze there is advisory rather than enforced.
Can I cancel myself?
Yes. In the app, in two clicks. No email required.
What if my card fails?
You keep your plan and we show you a banner while Stripe retries, for fourteen days. If it is still unpaid after that, the organisation goes back to Free. That is the same landing as an expired trial, with every freeze, schedule and enabled deploy gate still running. We never stop your freezes over billing. An overage gets the same answer: a meter and an audit entry, not a broken control.
Do you charge per user?
No. Never. There is no seat count and no per-user line on any plan, including Free. The bill is decided by private repositories you enabled, and by nothing else.
Can I pay by invoice or ACH?
Not today. Every plan is card, self-serve, in the app. There is no Enterprise tier and no sales process behind one. If invoicing is a hard procurement requirement, tell us, and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth waiting for.
Is there a discount for open source?
Public repos are free and unlimited on every plan, so you are probably already covered. If you run private repos for an open-source project, mail us.
